A symphony concert was staged on the bank of Jinji Lake on Nov 25 to celebrate SIP’s 30th anniversary and the profound friendship between China and Singapore.

Led by Chen Xieyang, conductor and music director of Suzhou Symphony Orchestra (SZS), SZS and a number of Singaporean musicians gave amazing performances.

The concert started with the “Fruehlingsstimmen Walzer” (Voices of Spring), a work by Austrian musician Johann Strauss II, followed by a list of songs that manifest the essence of Chinese and Singaporean cultures.

The song “Home”, performed by Singaporean singer Joi Chua, moved everyone on site.

“This is not just an audio-visual feast, but also an event for cultural exchanges,” said Chen Wei, chief director of the concert. “We hope that the performances can reflect SIP’s evolution over the past three decades,” he added.

One of the highlights of the concert was the classic episode of “The Butterfly Lovers” performed by Singaporean violinist Kam Ning and the SIP Junior Symphony Orchestra, and another was the “Moonlit River in Spring” performed by Yu Jia, Pipa Principal of Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Chen Shasha, a member of China National Traditional Orchestra, and SZS.

The finale, “From Jasmine to Turandot”, not only symbolizes the fusion of Chinese and Singaporean cultures, but also the 30-year China-Singapore cooperation in SIP.
